Carley Dyment's Co-Op Testimonial

Dear Mari-Beth

Re: My Co-op Experience

I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude for the invaluable experience I have gained during this placement. My time with the First Aid Sisters has been incredibly educational and, most importantly, enjoyable. I truly appreciate your guidance and willingness to share your knowledge—not only about first aid but also about the responsibilities involved in running a business. The opportunities I have had through this experience have provided me with valuable lessons that I will carry forward as I continue my studies in Biology at the University of Waterloo.

One of the most important lessons I have learned during this placement is confidence. Teaching classes on topics such as EpiPen use has strengthened my ability to communicate effectively and reinforced my knowledge of first aid. As someone who has previously struggled with anxiety and public speaking, this experience has significantly improved my self-assurance. This confidence has also inspired me to take on leadership roles as a science ambassador to promote engagement and mentorship in STEM. In addition to confidence, I have developed strong communication skills through frequent interactions with both students and my employers. These skills have become invaluable as I continue to use them in the additional co-op terms that I have completed here at Waterloo. Moreover, time management—a skill I’ve sharpened during this placement—has proven beneficial in my studies. These organizational abilities will help me continue to maintain a healthy balance between academics and personal life as I continue to navigate through university.

Finally, the comprehensive knowledge of First Aid I’ve gained during this placement has further cemented my ambition to pursue a career in health care. My time here has also inspired me to continue developing my emergency response skills, leading me to become a member of the Waterloo Campus Response Team. This opportunity allows me to apply my first aid training in real-world scenarios while contributing to the safety and well-being of the university community.

Once again, thank you for this incredible opportunity. As your first co-op student, I am deeply grateful for the effort and care you put into teaching and supporting me. You have done an amazing job, and I encourage you to continue participating in the co-op program and mentoring more students in the future. Working with you has been an absolute pleasure, and I will carry the lessons I’ve learned here with me as I progress in my journey.

Sincerely,

Carley Dyment
